About this video
Optimal finishing mechanics for the inside heel hook involve aligning the big toe tendon with the pec and ensuring knee alignment with the opponent's knee. This prevents sloppy kneebar positions and potential escapes. The finish is executed with the following steps:
- Align the big toe tendon of the opponent's foot against your pec, not the pinky toe tendon as with the outside heel hook.
- Ensure your knee is in line with the opponent's knee to maintain control and prevent external rotation which could lead to escape.
- Use a shotgun grip to keep the opponent's heel off the mat and secure the heel.
- Point your knee in the same direction as the opponent's knee to maintain alignment.
- Place the back heel on the inside of the opponent's thigh, ensuring there is no space and that your thigh pulls against their knee when closing.
- Connect your hands and close your knees to apply breaking pressure and secure the finish.
It's important to maintain tight control and correct positioning throughout the technique to effectively apply the inside heel hook and prevent the opponent from turning, slipping, or clearing the kneeline.
