Executing the C-Post Switch Drill to counter inside heel hooks:
- Begin by pointing your toes and placing your hand (C-post) just below your opponent's knee, pushing their knee down to misalign it with your own knee, disrupting their breaking mechanic.
- Even with the heel hook in place, by taking their knee out of alignment, it becomes more difficult for your opponent to apply pressure.
- Use this misalignment to turn your body outwards and slip your heel out of danger.
- Next, bring your foot over the top of both of your opponent's legs and into the crook of their bottom leg, which is a safe position that prevents counterattacks.
- Push on the bottom knee to clear your leg and prevent follow-up attacks from your opponent.
- In the drill, you would then kick to clear the knee line and switch to a scoop grip on the opponent's leg.
- Throw your leg over the top to enter into your own saddle position and dig for the heel hook.
- Your partner then repeats the same sequence, practicing the drill without hand assists to develop the skill of using the feet to escape and counter.
- The drill emphasizes the importance of clearing the knee line by pushing the opponent's knee down and using the foot to pummel inside, creating the necessary angle for escape.
- It's crucial to only rotate slightly to avoid exposing your back and to square back up to the opponent if they come up to play guard.
This drill is an effective method for escaping and countering inside heel hooks, focusing on the mechanics of knee and foot positioning.
