About this video

Executing a laces inside heel hook from the saddle position:

  1. Start by controlling both of your opponent's legs, maintaining the knee line, and backhealing your legs.
  2. Reach deep with your arm on the calf of the leg you're attacking, avoiding an Achilles lock and ensuring the hand doesn't slip out.
  3. Lift your opponent slightly and triangle your inside foot over your outside foot, placing it under their buttocks, aiming for the far hip.
  4. Ensure you maintain the knee line throughout this movement. Losing it negates the setup.
  5. Reach through to your opponent's hip with your foot, creating tension on both your ankles and their knee, which can almost finish the lock without heel contact.
  6. Use this foot structure to prevent your opponent's knee from aligning with their hip and ankle, hindering their turning escape.
  7. When you release the second leg, your opponent's knee should remain outside the line of their ankle and hip, making it easier to dig for the heel hook.
  8. Secure the heel hook by placing your big toe tendon in the pec, locking up the heel, and keeping your leg in position to block their escape.
  9. Even if your opponent tries to rotate out, your leg position will prevent them from escaping.
  10. Rock your opponent to the side, place your toes under their buttocks, and tilt them back to trap their leg and secure the position.
  11. Any grip break can be used to expose the heel for the heel hook, as the leg position creates a significant problem for your opponent.
  12. Finally, apply the heel hook by pinching your legs together, creating breaking pressure on the trapped leg.
