About this video

Executing an effective inside heel hook requires precise alignment of the knee and strong hamstring engagement. The finish is significantly improved when the practitioner's knee is aligned with the opponent's knee. This alignment, combined with external rotation, is particularly important when dealing with flexible opponents.

  1. Ensure strong hamstring activation to apply heavy pressure.
  2. Adjust your body to align your knee directly with your opponent's knee to optimize the position.
  3. Focus on two key mechanics: positioning the big toe tendon against your pectoral muscle and aligning your knee with the opponent's knee.
  4. Instead of twisting your own body to achieve this, manipulate your opponent's body to get the correct alignment.
  5. Simultaneously work on getting the big toe tendon in your pec while keeping your knee pointed towards the opponent's knee, which can be challenging.
  6. Finally, bring the back heel in to close the gap, ensuring that the knee alignment is maintained for maximum effectiveness of the heel hook.

This approach ensures that even if the opponent tries to escape, the alignment and pressure make it difficult for them to do so, leading to a successful submission.
