Baratoplata

Submission Gi only

Quick Reference

Key principles

  • · The wrist must be pinned at their belt line — forcing the wrist to the belly at navel level creates the closed loop the whole submission runs through.
  • · Your same-side foot posts on their hip with the leg glued to their body; that leg is what stops them squaring up and pulling the arm free.
  • · Threading your arm through the loop until it seats in the crook of their elbow, palm flat on your own thigh, converts your whole frame into the lever — no grip strength required.
  • · The finish is rotation, not extension: turn your body toward the trapped shoulder while the wrist stays pinned.
  • · If they straighten the arm to escape the loop, the armbar and omoplata are directly available — keep the wrist connection through every transition.

Execution

  1. 1 From closed guard, secure a reverse kimura grip on one arm and force their wrist to their belly at navel height.
  2. 2 Place the foot on the same side as the attacked arm onto their hip, keeping that leg tight to their torso.
  3. 3 Thread your free arm through the loop formed by their bent arm until your forearm sits in the crook of their elbow.
  4. 4 Anchor that palm on your own thigh to close the structure.
  5. 5 Rotate your upper body toward the trapped shoulder, keeping the wrist pinned, until the shoulder taps.

Common mistakes

  • × Letting the trapped wrist float off their belly, which opens the loop and lets them slide the arm out before the lever seats.
  • × Leaving the hip-side leg loose or off the hip, giving them room to square their shoulders and stack.
  • × Pulling with the threaded arm instead of anchoring the palm to your thigh and rotating the body, which turns a mechanical lock into an arm-wrestling match.
