Marcos Tinoco was born on December 18, 1988, in Araruama, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. At age 16, he began his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey under the mentorship of Master Juarez Soares. Training at Araruama Jiu-Jitsu, a team founded by Soares, Marcos developed a solid technical foundation and quickly demonstrated his potential in the art.

In 2012, while competing at the World Pro Championship in Abu Dhabi, Marcos met his future wife, Hana. Hana, who worked at a Marcelo Garcia affiliate academy, encouraged Marcos to train under the legendary Marcelo Garcia. With the blessing of his original instructor, Juarez Soares, Marcos officially joined Marcelo Garcia's academy in 2013. Under Garcia's guidance, Marcos refined his skills and earned his black belt on January 19, 2015.

Marcos Tinoco gained significant recognition within the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community during his dominant 2014 brown belt campaign. That year, he secured victories at prestigious tournaments, notably the IBJJF World Championship and the IBJJF NYC Pro Championship. These impressive performances established Marcos as one of the sport's rising talents.

Continuing his competitive success in the Masters division, Marcos captured multiple IBJJF Masters World titles, including double gold medal performances. Among his most notable matches was an impressive no-gi victory over renowned competitor Romulo Barral at Kasai Pro 5.

Following the winding down of Marcelo Garcia's competition team, Marcos relocated from New York to Massachusetts, becoming a lead instructor at Bernardo Faria Academy. Teaching alongside his wife Hana, Marcos continues to share his extensive knowledge and experience, contributing significantly to the academy's growth and reputation.

Marcos Tinoco is widely recognized for his sophisticated and highly effective use of the Lasso Guard. His precise control and strategic setups from this position allow him to neutralize opponents' passing attempts and create opportunities for sweeps and submissions.

Armbar Specialization

In addition to his guard expertise, Marcos is known for his sharp and dynamic Armbar attacks. His ability to seamlessly transition into submissions from various positions demonstrates his technical versatility and tactical awareness.
