Despite his father's iconic status, Kennedy did not train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu during his early childhood. In 2007, his father moved to the United States, and Kennedy joined him in California in late 2012. Upon arrival, Kennedy began formal BJJ training under his father's direction at Alliance. His technical aptitude surfaced quickly—within months, he captured gold at the IBJJF Pan Championship, signaling his potential as a rising competitor.

Kennedy Maciel's ascent through the colored belt divisions was defined by dominant performances and tactical precision. He claimed world titles under both the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) and United Arab Emirates Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF) banners.
