Once again, however, he was compelled to step away from both. At 17, Houmine made a pivotal decision: he moved to France to pursue his academic studies, a transition that reshaped the entire trajectory of his life. Houmine's introduction to Brazilian jiu-jitsu in France began under the guidance of Jackson Paulo Jacinto, whose instruction provided the technical foundations that would underpin his entire game. In April 2018, after years of dedicated training, Houmine received his black belt — a milestone that marked not an endpoint, but the beginning of his most accomplished competitive chapter. Competing in the ultra-heavyweight division (+100.50 kg / +222.0 lbs), he established himself as one of GF Team France's top representatives on the international circuit, bringing a physical profile honed through years of diverse athletic training to bear against the world's best grapplers.

The defining moment of Houmine's competitive career arrived at the 2024 IBJJF World Championships, where he entered the ultra-heavyweight division of the adult black belt bracket. In the semi-finals, he was defeated by Yatan Bueno, a result that initially placed Houmine on the third-place podium rather than the top step.

In the months following the event, however, the outcome of the ultra-heavyweight division was dramatically altered. Yatan Bueno was stripped of his title following a doping violation, and the original medalists across the division were disqualified. As a consequence of these rulings, Houmine was elevated to the position of IBJJF World Champion — a title that carries the same historical weight regardless of the circumstances by which it was conferred.
