In round two, Sam uses an early hip toss to get on top. They return to their feet, Kennedy pulls guard, then stands again. Kennedy tries a drag but Sam snatches a guillotine, which Kennedy clears. Sam spends the rest of the round looking for an armbar but cannot finish it.

Round three sees both men wrestling with neither able to establish much in the opening minutes. Kennedy attacks a single leg and Sam jumps on another guillotine, this one deep, but Kennedy clears his hips and spins out in an impressive sequence. Late in the round, Kennedy looks for a choi bar and Sam clears. Kennedy then jumps on an outside heel hook but it is loose, and the match ends there.
