Joshua Bacallao

Did you know?

• ▸ Of 39 recorded matches, 36 came in no-gi and only 3 in the gi, so Bacallao is essentially a no-gi competitor on record.
• ▸ 9 of his 18 recorded wins came by points, with only 4 by submission, which fits a grinding, positional game rather than a hunt for the finish.
• ▸ His recorded submission win rate sits at 22 percent, below the site average of 40 percent, and his 4 finishes are spread across an armbar, a triangle choke, a heel hook, and one unspecified sub.
• ▸ His busiest recorded year was 2021 with 12 matches, and that same year produced points wins over Samir Chantre and Nick Ronan plus a submission over Daniel Maira.
• ▸ He beat Gianni Grippo on advantages at the 2017 IBJJF Pan No-Gi Championship and Josh Hinger the same way at the 2018 IBJJF Las Vegas Summer Open No-Gi, showing he can edge out well-known names in tight matches.
