Guilherme Cordiviola was born on February 20, 1992, in Jacarepaguá, a neighborhood in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His martial arts journey began at age 6 on the judo mat, where he absorbed the foundational grappling principles — balance, leverage, and positional awareness — that would underpin his development as a competitor.

After a period away from the mats, Cordiviola returned to grappling as a teenager through an unlikely source: the popular Brazilian soap opera Malhação, which reignited an interest in combat sports among many young Brazilians at the time. At 12, he began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Merck Fight Club/Escola de Lutas under coaches Sergio Henrique Miranda and Leonardo Gonçalves. The disciplined environment at the gym gave Cordiviola a strong technical base and cultivated the consistency and dedication that would define his long-term growth in the sport.

Cordiviola's ascent through the belt ranks at Merck Fight Club/Escola de Lutas reflected steady, deliberate technical growth under Sergio Henrique Miranda and Leonardo Gonçalves. His brown belt career peaked with a bronze medal in the ultra-heavyweight division at the 2017 IBJJF World Championship — a result that signaled his readiness for the sport's highest level.
