André Góis was born on October 8, 1996, in the Cangaiba neighborhood on the east side of São Paulo, Brazil. From an early age, he pursued sports with genuine enthusiasm, with soccer emerging as his clear favorite. His path to jiu-jitsu, however, arrived through an unexpected channel — a video game sparked his curiosity about the martial art, setting in motion a journey that would carry him to the highest levels of IBJJF competition.

After that initial spark, Góis began training at a local police officers club, where he received his first structured exposure to the sport. Known by the nickname "Nêga" — a term of endearment common in Brazil, though one that carries different connotations in other cultural contexts — Góis brought that informal identity with him as he grew into a serious competitor on the mats.

André Góis built his technical foundation under Luciano Nucci, earning every promotion from white belt through brown belt while representing Alliance. Nucci's instruction instilled a disciplined, detail-oriented approach that proved durable across years of high-level IBJJF competition.

A pivotal shift came in 2016 when Góis first crossed paths with Lucas Lepri, a multiple-time world champion in the lightweight division. Góis gradually integrated into Lepri's training group, continuing to work alongside Nucci while absorbing the influence of one of the sport's most accomplished lightweights. Brown Belt and Black Belt Debut

At brown belt, Góis maintained his circuit presence with a 3rd place finish at the 2018 IBJJF Brazilian Nationals and another podium appearance at the 2019 IBJJF Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championship, where he again placed 3rd. His transition to black belt competition in 2020 was seamless: Góis claimed 1st place at the 2020 IBJJF Miami Winter Open and 1st place at the 2020 IBJJF Atlanta Open, while also reaching the absolute division podium with a 3rd place at the Miami Winter Open and a 3rd place at the 2020 IBJJF American Nationals. Góis competes in the Peso Leve division (76 kg / 168 lbs), a weight class where precision and technical efficiency are at a premium.
