Key principles
- · The lockdown or body triangle on the legs prevents the opponent from straightening their spine and escaping the rotation.
- · Controlling the far arm across their body removes their primary defensive frame and amplifies spinal torque.
- · The finish comes from driving your clasped hands behind their head while pulling laterally, creating a twisting force along the entire spine.
- · Hip pressure into the opponent's back keeps them flat and prevents them from rolling to relieve the crank.
- · If they defend by tucking their chin, transition to pulling the arm across more deeply before re-securing the head control.
Execution
- 1 From truck or crab ride, secure a lockdown or tight leg entanglement on the opponent's bottom leg to anchor their hips.
- 2 Thread your near-side arm under their far arm and secure an overhook or S-grip, pulling that arm across their centerline toward you.
- 3 Lock your hands behind their head using a gable grip or S-grip, threading your free arm behind the neck from the top side.
- 4 Drive your hips forward into their back while pulling their head laterally toward their trapped hip, creating the spinal twist.
- 5 Apply the finish slowly and with control by increasing lateral flexion pressure until they tap.
Common mistakes
- × Failing to secure the far arm across the body first, allowing the opponent to post and frame to prevent the head control.
- × Losing the leg entanglement by not maintaining lockdown tension, which lets the opponent straighten out and kill the spinal rotation.
- × Cranking only the neck without engaging the full spine through proper hip pressure, reducing effectiveness and risking a neck-only crank that opponents can resist.
