Truck
Position
The Truck is a dominant back-angle control position where the attacker threads a leg between the opponent's legs (creating a lockdown/twister hook) while controlling from behind at an angle. It is a powerful transitional position used to attack with twisters, banana splits, calf slicers, and back takes.
Quick Reference
Key principles
- · The twister hook (bottom leg threaded between opponent's legs and hooking the far thigh) is the anchor of the entire position.
- · Upper body control through a seatbelt grip or harness prevents the opponent from turning into you and escaping.
- · Maintaining a perpendicular angle to your opponent's spine maximizes control and limits their ability to square up.
- · Keep your hips heavy and glued tight to the opponent's hips to prevent them from creating space to extract their legs.
- · When the opponent tries to roll away, follow their rotation and use it to transition to back take or submission.
Execution
- 1 Secure the twister hook by threading your bottom leg between the opponent's legs from behind, hooking over their far thigh with your instep.
- 2 Lock your legs together in a figure-four or lockdown configuration around the opponent's trapped leg to solidify the hook.
- 3 Establish upper body control with a seatbelt grip (one arm over the shoulder, one under the armpit) while positioning your chest against their back at an angle.
- 4 Keep your hips tight to theirs and use your top leg to post or adjust angle as needed to maintain the perpendicular position.
- 5 From this stabilized position, choose your attack: twister by controlling the head, banana split by spreading the legs, calf slicer by adjusting leg pressure, or transition to back control.
Common mistakes
- × Failing to lock the twister hook tightly allows the opponent to free their leg and escape or square back up.
- × Neglecting upper body control (seatbelt/harness) lets the opponent turn toward you, flatten out, and nullify the position.
- × Positioning too far behind rather than at a perpendicular angle reduces leverage for submissions and makes transitions harder.
