In July 2024, a video circulated appearing to show individuals connected to the Fratres workgroup distributing vials of Deca-Durabolin — the brand name for nandrolone decanoate, an anabolic steroid prohibited in sport. The footage raised serious questions about the team's broader culture regarding performance-enhancing drugs and drew widespread attention within the grappling community at the same moment that Bueno's own drug case was coming to light.

The Positive Test and Sanction

Yatan Bueno won gold at the 2024 IBJJF World Jiu-Jitsu Championship, but the title was subsequently stripped after he returned a positive result in USADA drug testing. The substance detected was 19-Norandrosterone (19-NA), a metabolite of nandrolone — an anabolic steroid most commonly associated with the injectable compound Deca-Durabolin. Bueno accepted a three-year period of ineligibility as a consequence of the violation.

Bueno's Account
