Muslim Patsarigov was born on August 9, 1987, in Chechnya, and demonstrated an extraordinary aptitude for wrestling from an exceptionally young age. He began training at four years old, and by ten, his talent had earned him a place in the Chechen national junior wrestling squad — a remarkable achievement that foreshadowed an elite career in the sport. Patsarigov dominated the regional circuit, winning every tournament within Chechnya's wrestling scene and claiming a bronze medal at the Chechnya nationals during his early teens.

That promising trajectory was violently interrupted in 2000, when the outbreak of the Second Chechen War forced Patsarigov and his family to flee their homeland. He was 13 years old. The family eventually found refuge in Norway, where Muslim continued to wrestle informally among friends. Without an organized competitive wrestling infrastructure in Norway, the young athlete found himself without a meaningful competitive outlet — and was compelled to reconsider his sporting path entirely.

Patsarigov's redirection came during his late teens, when admiration for Rickson Gracie drew him toward Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In 2009, his search for an academy led him to coach Felipe Mota — known by his nickname "Gargamel" — and he began training under him in Sandnes, Norway. At Oxy Gym, alongside some of Europe's most accomplished grapplers, Patsarigov found the competitive environment he had long been searching for.

Building a Reputation on the Scandinavian Circuit

His progress through the Scandinavian grappling community was swift and impressive. He accumulated numerous medals across the region, steadily establishing himself as one of the continent's most dangerous super-heavyweights. His brown belt campaign was particularly distinguished, featuring podium finishes at several of the sport's most prestigious international events — including a runner-up finish at the 2016 UAEJJF Abu Dhabi World Pro Championship and a bronze medal at the 2015 IBJJF World No-Gi Championship in both weight and absolute divisions.

In August 2016, after years of focused development under Mota's guidance, Patsarigov was promoted to black belt by his long-time instructor. Though born in Chechnya, he represents Norway in international competition — a testament to the country that provided him and his family sanctuary.

He later recorded a runner-up finish at the 2019 ADCC European Trials, demonstrating continued relevance at the elite level years after his black belt promotion.
