Mansher Khera was born into a Sikh family whose demanding work obligations shaped his earliest years in an unconventional way. With both parents facing schedules that left little room to raise a young child, the family made the decision to send three-year-old Mansher to boarding school in Punjab — a state in northern India widely regarded as the cultural and spiritual heart of the country's Sikh community. He remained there for a decade, receiving his formative upbringing immersed in that environment, before returning to his family and enrolling in a public school in Queens, New York.

Khera grew up with a natural affinity for martial arts, training taekwondo throughout his childhood. At seventeen, the popularity of The Ultimate Fighter television series pulled him back toward combat sports, and a friend who trained jiu-jitsu provided the direct catalyst for his entry into grappling. Khera began taking classes at the Mayo Academy in New York under coaches Jasper Ian and Luís Aldana. That grassroots social pathway — one friend leading another through a gym door — marked the start of a career that would reach the highest levels of the sport.

Khera's time at the Mayo Academy was brief. Shortly after Marcelo Garcia established his Manhattan academy, Khera signed on and quickly distinguished himself as one of the gym's most driven and dedicated competitors. His hunger to improve and his willingness to test himself in competition set him apart, and Garcia recognized those qualities, guiding Khera methodically through every stage of his grappling education.

The results at the lower belt levels were extraordinary. Competing as a brown belt, Khera captured four IBJJF World No-Gi titles across 2013 and 2014, winning both the weight and absolute divisions in consecutive years — a run that announced him as one of the most dangerous grapplers in the sport regardless of rank. He also earned podium finishes at purple and brown belt across IBJJF regional and major championships, including a silver medal at the IBJJF World Championship as a brown belt in 2013 and a bronze in 2014.

When Marcelo Garcia promoted Khera to black belt in April 2015, the milestone carried historic weight within the Garcia lineage: Khera became the first student Garcia ever guided from white belt all the way to black belt. The promotion underscored both the depth of their student-instructor relationship and the remarkable consistency of Khera's development. He arrived at the black belt division in mid-2015 already regarded as one of the sport's hottest prospects, carrying a résumé that most competitors never achieve across an entire career.

Khera wasted no time validating his reputation at the black belt level. In 2015, he captured gold at the IBJJF Boca Raton Open and reached the final of the IBJJF World No-Gi Championship, finishing as runner-up and signaling immediately that he belonged among the elite lightweights in the world. Competing in the Peso Leve division at 76kg/167lbs, he consistently measured himself against the best competition available.

In 2016, Khera earned what many consider the most coveted qualification in submission grappling by winning the ADCC USA East Coast Trials, securing a spot at the ADCC World Championship. His appearance at ADCC granted him veteran status at grappling's most prestigious no-gi event and further cemented his credentials on the international stage. He also reached the podium at the IBJJF World No-Gi Championship that year, finishing third, while adding a gold medal at the IBJJF Boston Summer Open to his black belt record.

The high-level performances continued into 2018, when Khera claimed the Polaris Welterweight Championship — a victory that demonstrated sustained elite output in professional submission grappling well beyond his initial black belt years. His no-gi pedigree, forged under Marcelo Garcia's system, remained the defining foundation of his competitive identity throughout this period.

Building on his elite grappling credentials, Khera transitioned into mixed martial arts and constructed a perfect professional record. His MMA career progressed steadily, and on May 12, 2024, he defeated Hector Saenz at Fury FC 90 to improve his record to 8-0. The victory extended a run of professional success that placed him among the rare crossover athletes to achieve genuine elite status in both competitive BJJ and professional MMA.

On May 22, 2025, Khera achieved the most significant victory of his MMA career, winning at Road To UFC — the UFC's official feeder tournament operating on the Asian circuit. The performance marked a meaningful escalation in the level of competition he faced and represented the highest-profile stage of his MMA career to date, with his BJJ foundation continuing to serve as a central pillar of his fighting game.

In 2017, Khera's long association with Marcelo Garcia's academy came to an end when he and teammate Dillon Danis were suspended from the gym. The circumstances brought a close to a chapter that had defined Khera's entire development as a grappler — from his earliest days on the mats through to his historic black belt promotion.

In the wake of the suspension, Khera and Danis moved to Unity Jiu-Jitsu, also based in New York City. Unity JJ had established itself as a competitive hub for elite grapplers in the region, and the transition gave Khera a new competitive home without disrupting his output on the mat. He continued performing at a high level under the Unity banner, adding a silver medal at the IBJJF Atlanta Spring Open in 2017 and the Polaris Welterweight Championship in 2018 to his record. Unity Jiu-Jitsu remains his team affiliation.
