Kleber Barboza

Kleber Barboza was born on April 2, 2003, in Jardim Rosana, a neighborhood in São Paulo, Brazil. His early athletic identity took shape on the football pitch, where he competed until the age of 12. A year before stepping away from football, at age 11, he received his first exposure to martial arts through judo and capoeira — disciplines that introduced him to body control, timing, and discipline, all principles that would later define his grappling career.

At 13, Barboza took his first steps onto the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu mats through the Diamante Bruto (Raw Diamond) Project, a social initiative providing youth in his community access to sport. Under the guidance of coach Josyclay Gomes, he built the technical foundation and competitive habits that would carry him through every subsequent stage of his career. Within the Diamante Bruto program, he earned his blue belt — completing an early chapter of development that proved essential to everything that followed.

In 2020, the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic extended beyond closed gyms. For Barboza, they prompted a deeper moment of reflection about his future in sport. He stepped away from jiu-jitsu to reassess his path, uncertain whether to continue. The turning point came through a conversation with a friend named Pedro, whose encouragement brought Barboza back to training later that same year.

His return led him to the Yuu social project in São Paulo, where he trained under coach Marcio "Zaca" Oliveira. The connection proved transformative: Coach Zaca recognized Barboza's potential and facilitated his introduction to Dream Art, one of São Paulo's premier professional BJJ squads. Barboza joined Dream Art as a blue belt, and it was there that team leader Isaque Bahiense took direct charge of his development — personally awarding him his purple, brown, and black belts as he advanced through the ranks.

During his time at Dream Art, Barboza also acquired his nickname — "Bradock" — given to him by Isaque Bahiense and Patrick Gaudio because his appearance reminded them of a friend from their hometown. The name stuck and became a fixture of his competitive identity within the team.

Few competitors enter the black belt division carrying a colored belt résumé as consistently decorated as Barboza's. From the earliest stages of his career, he demonstrated the ability to perform at the highest levels of IBJJF competition across every rank.

Juvenile and Blue Belt

As a juvenile competitor in 2019, Barboza signaled his potential with podium finishes at the Brazilian Nationals in both the weight and absolute divisions. His performances elevated significantly at blue belt: in 2021, he earned a silver medal at the Brazilian Nationals, then converted that momentum into gold the following year at the 2022 IBJJF Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championship, the 2022 IBJJF World Championship, and the Brazilian Nationals — a dominant sweep of the calendar year at that rank.

Purple and Brown Belt

Advancing to purple belt, Barboza claimed gold at the 2023 IBJJF Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championship, maintaining his standard of excellence at a more competitive level of the division. A third-place finish at the 2023 IBJJF World Championship at purple belt further confirmed his status as one of the most consistent performers in his weight class across the colored belt ranks.

His brown belt season in 2024 was equally impressive. Barboza secured gold at the 2024 IBJJF European Jiu-Jitsu Championship and the Brazilian Nationals No-Gi, reached the final of the 2024 IBJJF Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championship, and earned a bronze at the Brazilian Nationals. Across gi and no-gi formats, he demonstrated the breadth and consistency expected of an elite competitor — winning at major IBJJF events at every stage, all within the Dream Art system under Isaque Bahiense.

When Barboza transitioned to the black belt division, the expectation was that a competitor of his colored belt pedigree would adapt quickly to the professional level — and the 2025 season confirmed as much. Competing in the Light Feather division (64.00 kg / 141.5 lbs), he moved efficiently among top-tier competitors at his weight and established himself as one of the standout rookies of the 2025 black belt season.

The headline result of his debut black belt year came at the 2025 IBJJF World No-Gi Championship, where Barboza reached the final at 61 kg and earned a silver medal — a performance that underscored his readiness to compete at the sport's highest level. His competitive record across gi and no-gi formats reflects 20 wins and 11 losses, including 2 submission victories and 6 submission losses, figures that speak to the unforgiving nature of the professional black belt circuit.

Barboza competes under the Dream Art banner and carries a lineage that traces through Isaque Bahiense, Fábio Gurgel, Romero Cavalcanti, Rolls Gracie, Helio Gracie, and Carlos Gracie — one of the sport's most storied lines of succession. His progression from the Diamante Bruto social project in Jardim Rosana to the podium of the IBJJF No-Gi World Championship represents a trajectory built on consistent development, institutional support, and competitive excellence at every stage of his career.
