Jaine Fragoso

Jaine Fragoso was born in February 1998 in Caxias do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, into an environment that naturally cultivated a competitive spirit. Throughout her school years, she participated in a wide range of scholastic sports, building the athletic foundation and competitive mindset that would later define her grappling career.

Her introduction to combat sports came at age 10 through her older brother, a practitioner of muay thai and mixed martial arts who taught her the fundamentals of both disciplines for self-defense. This early exposure to striking and combat sports proved formative, shaping her technical awareness and deepening her comfort in competitive combat environments. Six months into her 17th year, Fragoso stepped onto the BJJ mats for the first time — a transition that felt like a natural extension of the martial arts path her brother had set her on.

Finding Her Footing

Fragoso began her BJJ journey under Mateus Bernardi, founder of the JA Jiu-Jitsu club in Caxias do Sul. True to her competitive nature, she entered local tournaments after only four weeks of training — a bold move that immediately exposed the gap between her combat sports background and the technical demands of jiu-jitsu. For the first six months, she lost every match she entered. Rather than discouraging her, that sustained stretch of defeat forged the resilience and commitment that would come to define her career.

The turning point arrived when Fragoso aged into the adult division and entered her first adult-category competition. She won the tournament outright — a milestone that validated the difficult early months and confirmed that her competitive instincts had found a sport worthy of them.

Black Belt Promotion Under Davi Ramos

As Fragoso deepened her investment in BJJ and began pursuing the sport professionally, she moved through several teams in search of the right environment to develop. She eventually found her footing at an Atos affiliate in Rio de Janeiro, coming under the guidance of Davi Ramos, a former ADCC World Champion. Training under Ramos proved transformative. On January 17, 2023, he promoted Fragoso to the rank of black belt, recognizing both her technical growth and her results on the competition circuit.

In 2024, Fragoso relocated to the United States and began training under Caio Terra, joining the Caio Terra Association (CTA). The move marked a new chapter in her development, integrating her into one of the most technically refined grappling programs in North America.

Colored Belt Success

Fragoso built her competitive reputation steadily across the colored belt ranks, establishing herself as one of Brazil's most consistent tournament performers well before her black belt promotion. At blue belt, she claimed gold at the CBJJ Brazilian Nationals in 2019. She carried that momentum through purple and brown belt, earning podium finishes at the CBJJ Brazilian Nationals in 2021 and 2022. Her brown belt campaign closed on a particularly high note: a CBJJ Brazilian Nationals No-Gi title and a CBJJ South American Championship gold medal, both in 2022.

Black Belt Breakthrough

Fragoso's transition to black belt competition in 2023 was immediate and impactful. Within her first year at the new rank, she captured gold at the 2023 IBJJF Pan Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi Championship and the ADCC São Paulo Open, announcing her arrival on the international stage with authority. She also reached the podium at the CBJJ Brazilian Nationals, taking third place in 2023.

The 2024 competitive year saw Fragoso expand her reach significantly, particularly in no-gi and submission grappling formats. She won the ADCC Las Vegas Open and the IBJJF American Nationals No-Gi — the latter among her first major titles representing the United States following her relocation. At the 2024 IBJJF World Jiu-Jitsu Championship, she reached the podium with a third-place finish, her strongest result at Worlds to date. She also advanced to the final of the ADCC Belo Horizonte Trials in 2024, finishing as runner-up and reinforcing her standing among the elite competitors in her weight class on the ADCC circuit.

Fragoso competes in the Peso Leve division (64 kg / 141.5 lbs). Her consistent performances across IBJJF, CBJJ, and ADCC events in both gi and no-gi formats reflect the well-rounded grappling base she developed through years of competition across multiple disciplines and belt levels.
