Isaque Paiva began his martial arts journey at age 11, initially practicing capoeira through a local community association designed to support working parents. At 13, Paiva transitioned to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, introduced through a social project spearheaded by his father and godfather. This initiative aimed to positively impact neighborhood youth through structured activities, prominently featuring jiu-jitsu. Paiva's early training took place under the expert guidance of brothers Massao Shinkai and Daniel Shinkai at Saikoo Jiu Jitsu Academy. Despite financial hardships that temporarily interrupted his training, Paiva persevered by working as an errands boy at the academy, earning his membership and continuing his martial arts development.

Paiva steadily advanced through the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ranks under the mentorship of Massao Shinkai at Saikoo Jiu Jitsu Academy. Demonstrating exceptional technical skill and unwavering dedication, he earned his black belt on August 3, 2008. Notably, Paiva remained loyal to his original regional academy throughout his competitive career, distinguishing himself as one of the few elite competitors to achieve international recognition without relocating to larger, more prominent academies.

Throughout his competitive journey, Paiva faced significant financial obstacles that limited his opportunities to compete internationally. Despite these challenges, he received crucial support from influential figures within the global BJJ community, including Leandro Kussano in Japan, Wellington "Megaton" Dias and his wife Luciana Dias in the USA, and Cícero Costha in Brazil. These individuals generously opened their academies to Paiva, providing accommodation, high-level training, and strategic guidance, enabling him to maintain a competitive edge on the international stage.

Transition to Masters Division

After 2018, Paiva transitioned to the masters competition circuit, where he continued to excel. In 2022, he secured the Master 1 featherweight gold medal at the 2022 CBJJ Brazilian National Championship, also earning a silver medal in the absolute division at the same event. Paiva consistently maintained a strong global ranking through podium finishes on the AJP Grand Slam tour, solidifying his status as one of the top-ranked 69 kg competitors internationally.

In recognition of his elite standing in the featherweight division, Paiva received an invitation to compete in the prestigious King of Mats tournament in Abu Dhabi in 2019. This exclusive event featured past champions from the World Pro and Grand Slam circuits, underscoring the respect and recognition Paiva commands among the world's best lightweight competitors.

As a third-degree black belt, Paiva dedicates himself to teaching and mentorship at his home gym, Saikoo Jiu Jitsu Academy. Specializing in self-defense instruction, he emphasizes technical precision and strategic application, empowering students and building their confidence through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Paiva's commitment to community development and mentorship highlights his dedication to positively impacting the lives of those around him through martial arts.

Paiva's competitive longevity is remarkable, having captured his first world title in 2008 and continuing to achieve success more than a decade later.
