A variation of passing the De La Riva guard using a pants grip is demonstrated. Instead of holding the shin, a spider guard grip is established on the bottom of the opponent's pants.

  1. Push down on the opponent's head and leg while lifting your hips.
  2. Step back and cut your knee out to initiate the pass.
  3. As you come up, use the hand gripping the pants to drag the opponent's leg across while stepping to the opposite side.
  4. Secure the collar with your free hand, maintaining the pants grip, and settle into the leg drag position.
  5. Repeat the process of pushing down, lifting hips, stepping back, and cutting the knee out, performing a windshield wiper motion with your legs.
  6. Hide your feet to prevent the opponent from regaining grips.
  7. Step to the other side and execute a forceful leg drag.
  8. Quickly grab the collar while still holding the pants to control the opponent and prevent them from facing you and replacing guard.
  9. Finalize the pass by establishing a solid leg drag position.
