About this video
When dealing with an opponent playing reverse De La Riva and controlling your heel, it's important to change your direction to the other side. Here's how to do it:
- First, grab the collar to prevent your opponent from going under you. Instead of pulling, push a little bit to create some space.
- If your opponent is stepping on your hips, grab their pants or heel and clear it by pushing and using your elbow inside.
- Once you've cleared the leg, grab the pants. This grip is crucial for the next step.
- Change your direction by placing your knee on the mat and turning to face the other side. Push your opponent's leg down and slide your knee over their shin.
- Once you've slid your knee over, stop in a leg weave position. From here, let go of the pants, control the hips, hook the leg, and pass to the back.
- Remember to change your direction again once your knee touches the mat. Your head should move towards your opponent as your knee goes down.
If your opponent has an overhook on your ankle, it's a bit more difficult to execute this pass. In this case, shift your hips and extend your leg to clear the grip. Once you've cleared the grip, you can use your hook against their leg and pass.
Remember, the key to this technique is controlling your opponent's movements and changing your direction to create opportunities for passing.
