Truck Back Take
Transition
The Truck Back Take is a transition from the Truck position to Back Control by threading the leg configuration into a seatbelt and hooks setup. It is used when the opponent is unable to escape the Truck and the attacker capitalizes on the existing body-lock control to rotate behind them and secure back mount.
Quick Reference
Key principles
- · Maintain the lockdown/twister hook on the near leg throughout the transition to prevent the opponent from turning into you.
- · Use the seatbelt grip (over-under on the torso) before releasing any leg control to ensure continuous attachment.
- · Drive your chest into their back as you rotate, eliminating space that would allow them to face you.
- · Anticipate the opponent trying to roll through or flatten out by keeping heavy hip pressure and adjusting your angle accordingly.
- · Prioritize getting the second hook in quickly once you clear the twister hook to solidify Back Control.
Execution
- 1 From the Truck, secure a seatbelt grip (one arm over the shoulder, one under the armpit) across your opponent's torso while keeping your twister hook engaged.
- 2 Use your free leg and hip pressure to drive your opponent onto their side or slightly face-down, walking your hips behind theirs.
- 3 Release the twister hook and immediately thread that foot inside their thigh as your first back hook.
- 4 Insert the second hook on the opposite side while tightening the seatbelt and gluing your chest to their back.
- 5 Settle into Back Control by dropping your hips below theirs and locking your ankles or feet to their inner thighs.
Common mistakes
- × Releasing the twister hook before establishing the seatbelt grip, giving the opponent a window to turn in and recover guard.
- × Failing to shift hips behind the opponent before inserting hooks, resulting in a shallow back take where the opponent easily escapes by sliding down.
- × Crossing the ankles once on the back instead of properly hooking with both heels, exposing yourself to a foot lock counter.
