Born on April 13, 1995, Pedro Dias grew up in the Santa Maria Favela in Rio de Janeiro — an environment that forged both his character and his competitive drive. His grappling journey began at age four with judo, instilling the physical discipline and combative mindset that would underpin his entire career. Around 1999 and 2000, he made the transition to jiu-jitsu, setting in motion a path that would carry him to the highest levels of the sport.

His first BJJ instructor, Michel Buiú Pereira, taught at a local social project within the community, laying the technical and competitive foundations that first revealed Pedro's exceptional potential. When Buiú relocated to the United States, Pedro's father took an active role in his son's continued development, seeking out quality instruction rather than allowing the momentum to stall. That search led them to Zé Beleza's Escola de Jiu-Jitsu, where Pedro's talent was recognized and further cultivated. The transition proved pivotal, connecting him with a lineage and network that would guide him toward the upper echelons of the sport.

Pedro Dias's rise as a competitor is inseparable from the Cantagalo Social Project, the institution that became the center of his athletic life. Founded in 1997, Cantagalo has served as a launchpad for numerous high-level BJJ competitors emerging from Rio de Janeiro's favela communities, demonstrating how martial arts can function simultaneously as a vehicle for social development and a pipeline for elite athletic achievement.

Within the project, Pedro trained under Douglas Rufino and Sandro Vieira, two coaches who sharpened his technical game and elevated his competitive outlook to the highest level. As a black belt, Pedro Dias established himself as one of the premier light-featherweight competitors of his generation, competing in the Peso Pluma division at 64 kg / 141.5 lbs. His transition to the black belt division was seamless.
