Born on June 18, 1983, in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, Cassio Francis came to Brazilian jiu-jitsu through one of the sport's most resonant origin stories. The Return and Resurgence

His return to the international circuit in late 2013 demonstrated that the time away had done nothing to diminish his abilities. Cassio came back with sharpened focus and physicality, quickly establishing himself as one of the more formidable names in the heavyweight division. He claimed gold at the South American Championship in 2013, then added Brazilian National titles in both 2014 and 2015, along with multiple Brazilian National No-Gi Championship victories. In 2016, he reached the pinnacle of the Pan American Championship with a first-place finish, then closed that year with a bronze medal at the World Championship.
