In 2000, Holanda began his BJJ journey at the academy of Faustino Neto, known throughout the Amazonian grappling community as "Pina." The gym carried a reputation as one of the toughest training environments in the state, and Holanda developed his craft alongside fighters who would go on to achieve international recognition, including Bibiano Fernandes and Dawglish Sousa.

Holanda distinguished himself quickly within that competitive environment, establishing himself as one of the academy's top practitioners. Seeking to accelerate his development, he began supplementing his training with time in Rio de Janeiro, splitting sessions between Gracie Barra and the academy of Osvaldo Alves — Pina's own master.
