In 2000, Holanda began training under Faustino Neto — known throughout the Amazonas scene by his nickname "Pina" — at one of the toughest academies in the region. Competing in the Pluma division (64kg / 141lbs) throughout his peak years, Holanda claimed IBJJF Pan Championship gold in both 2008 and 2010, cementing his status as one of the premier lightweights on the international circuit.
