Born on September 9, 1996, in Brazil, Alexssandro Sodré initially pursued a career in football (soccer), dedicating his childhood to training with a local youth team. His athletic journey took a pivotal turn in August 2009, at age 12, when coach Othon Servalho introduced him to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Invited to the grand opening of a local academy, Sodré received his first gi from Servalho, marking the beginning of his transition from the football field to the mats.

After establishing himself competitively in Manaus, Sodré relocated to Maringá to train under esteemed coach Rodrigo Feijão. This move significantly elevated his technical proficiency and competitive performance. On May 7, 2018, following a bronze medal finish at the CBJJ Brazilian National Championship as a brown belt, Feijão awarded Sodré his black belt, officially recognizing him as an elite-level competitor.

Throughout his competitive career, Sodré actively pursued international training opportunities to diversify his technical repertoire and strategic approach. Notably, as a brown belt, he attended a training camp at Gustavo Dantas's academy in Arizona, USA, where exposure to varied methodologies and styles further refined his competitive skill set.

In November 2023, Sodré was invited to compete at the prestigious 2023 IBJJF The Crown, facing his notable rival Fabricio Andrey in a highly anticipated showcase match. This event underscored Sodré's standing among the sport's elite and highlighted the ongoing competitive rivalry between the two athletes.

Transition and Early Success

Originally recognized as a top competitor in the light-featherweight division, Sodré strategically transitioned to lightweight by 2024. This decision quickly proved effective, as he secured his first IBJJF World Championship podium finish at lightweight, earning a bronze medal at the 2024 IBJJF World Championship.

Continued Momentum

Building upon this success, Sodré opened 2025 by capturing gold at the 2025 IBJJF Curitiba Summer Open. His adaptability and tactical adjustments to the lightweight division demonstrated his continued evolution and competitiveness at the highest levels of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
