After establishing himself competitively in Manaus, Sodré relocated to Maringá to train under esteemed coach Rodrigo Feijão. On May 7, 2018, following a bronze medal finish at the CBJJ Brazilian National Championship as a brown belt, Feijão awarded Sodré his black belt, officially recognizing him as an elite-level competitor.
