About this video

Transitioning from sitting guard to mounted arm-in guillotine when the opponent attempts a Guard Smash Pass:

  1. From sitting guard, be prepared for the opponent to attempt a Guard Smash Pass. If they do, they may place their head in a position to be captured for a guillotine.
  2. As the opponent reads the situation and begins to pass to the other side, use the arm to push their hip down, creating an opening to slide your leg over.
  3. Release your hands immediately as the opponent starts passing over your body, and use your feet to push against their chest, causing them to fall over.
  4. With the opponent's arm trapped, take a big step over to mount and secure the inverted palm-to-palm guillotine, applying pressure on their neck.
  5. If the timing is off and the opponent fully passes to cross body, open both hands. One hand goes towards the hip line, and the other converts to a Half Nelson on the hook.
  6. Shrimp towards your feet, slide your body down slightly, and use a chest bump to lever the opponent's head across the floor.
  7. Look over your shoulder to guide the opponent over, and use your forearm to assist the guillotine as you contract and make them surrender.
  8. If the opponent stabilizes in cross body, open both hands to create space and use a chest extension to eject the opponent off.
  9. Use the Half Nelson and the backhand against the opponent's hip to control their arm and deflect their body weight.
  10. Bridge your chest to topple the opponent over and follow through to secure the guillotine from the mounted position.

Key points include using the forearm to lead into the guillotine for a deep capture and ensuring the hands do not get stuck on the inside of the chest, which can restrict breathing and aid the opponent.
