About this video

Escaping the North-South choke involves leveraging the body to deflect the opponent rather than pushing them off. This is achieved by turning the hips sideways, which assists the shoulder in creating space for the forearm to slash through and escape the choke.

  1. When caught in a North-South choke, turn your hips to help your shoulder create space.
  2. Form a curled shape with your hands, as if throwing a punch, to prepare for the forearm slash.
  3. Use the forearm to fill the space and slash into the opponent's neck, targeting the soft spot.
  4. Push all the way out of the choke and sit up while controlling the distance to prevent being pulled back in.
  5. If the opponent applies a neck lock palm to palm, the escape is similar. Use the shoulder to help deflect them as the body spirals.
  6. Turn the body on the toes and use the same hand position to slide in and get the forearm involved.
  7. Block and control the distance, looking for a reset to avoid being caught in another choke.

It's crucial to act immediately when caught in a North-South choke or neck lock, as hesitation can lead to being forced to surrender. The escape relies on a full movement, leveraging the body into a spiral to create the necessary space for the forearm to slash and escape.
