Vitoria Vieira

Born on June 10, 1999, and raised in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Vitoria Vieira grew up in an environment that celebrated physical activity in all its forms. Her childhood encompassed a wide range of pursuits — from recreational outlets like swimming and skating to structured competitive disciplines including volleyball, judo, and dancing. Dance, in particular, commanded a serious commitment during her formative years, with Vieira investing heavily in the craft as a competitive endeavor.

It was her mother, however, who recognized something beyond the dancer — a fighter waiting for the right arena. Acting on that conviction, she steered Vitoria toward jiu-jitsu, enrolling her in a class at GF Team affiliate GFT Taquara in May 2014. The decision proved transformative. Vieira felt an immediate and instinctive connection with the sport, and what began as a mother's hunch quickly evolved into the defining pursuit of her athletic life.

Building the Foundation Under Flávio Soldado

From her earliest days at GFT Taquara, Vitoria Vieira trained under instructor Flávio Soldado, who guided her development from white belt through to black belt. Soldado's patient, methodical instruction established the technical and philosophical pillars of Vieira's jiu-jitsu game, and the coach-athlete relationship they built became one of the most enduring influences in her career.

Sharpening the Competitive Edge With Júlio César Pereira

As Vieira's results on the tournament circuit drew wider attention, she began supplementing her training at the workgroup led by Júlio César Pereira in the Meier neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. César heads the GF Team professional squad, and his high-performance environment exposed Vieira to elite-level sparring and competition preparation that complemented her foundational work under Soldado. The dual-coach structure — Soldado anchoring her technical base, César refining her competitive instincts — became a defining feature of her growth as an athlete.

Black Belt Promotion

In December 2021, following an exceptional brown belt campaign, Flávio Soldado promoted Vitoria Vieira to black belt, with the full endorsement of Júlio César Pereira. The promotion reflected both her technical maturity and the collective confidence her coaches placed in her readiness for jiu-jitsu's highest rank. Vieira competes for GF Team on the international circuit in the Peso Leve division (64 kg / 141.5 lbs).

A Brown Belt Campaign for the Record Books

Vitoria Vieira's rise to prominence was fueled by one of the most decorated colored belt runs in her division. In 2021, she claimed gold at the IBJJF World Championship — the sport's most prestigious title — announcing herself as the dominant force in the lightweight category. That same year, she added the CBJJ Brazilian Nationals title and the CBJJO World Cup gold medal, along with a bronze at the IBJJF South American Championship, demonstrating a consistency across major events that few competitors in her weight class could match.

Purple Belt Versatility and Early Stardom

Her competitive credentials reach back further still. In 2019, competing as a purple belt, Vieira captured gold at the CBJJ Brazilian Nationals in both gi and no-gi formats, as well as the CBJJ Brazilian Team Nationals title — a display of versatility that signaled her potential well before the black belt conversation began. A silver medal at the IBJJF South American Championship that year further confirmed that her performances were already operating at the upper echelon of her weight class.

A Legacy Built From the Ground Up

The cumulative weight of these results — spanning multiple belt levels, both gi and no-gi formats, and events at national and world scale — positions Vieira as one of the standout competitive talents to emerge from the GF Team program.
