Roberto Tussa Alencar

Roberto "Tussa" Alencar began his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey at age 14, inspired by the legendary performances of Royce Gracie in the early UFC events. Initially training under Gabriel Ramos in Brasília, Brazil, Tussa quickly developed a strong technical foundation. He later continued his progression under renowned instructor Ailson "Jucao" Brites, who awarded him his blue and purple belts. Tussa then received his brown belt from Eliezer Dutra, another respected member of the Gracie Barra family. Ultimately, he earned his black belt directly from Carlinhos Gracie, the esteemed leader of Gracie Barra.

In 2006, encouraged by his former coach Fábio Costa, Roberto Alencar relocated to the United States. Costa recognized the value of bringing a high-level competitor and instructor like Tussa to the U.S., and his persuasion proved instrumental. Alencar settled in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he established a Gracie Barra affiliated academy. Soon after, he became the head Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coach at the renowned Jackson-Wink MMA, significantly contributing to the integration of technical BJJ into MMA training camps in the region.

Structured Approach to Belt Promotion

Roberto Alencar emphasizes traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu rank progression, awarding belts based on consistent attendance, technical proficiency, and demonstrated merit. In 2015, Roberto Alencar showcased his elite grappling skills by winning the Rio de Janeiro ADCC Trials, defeating top-tier competitors and securing qualification for the prestigious 2015 ADCC World Championship. Known for his dynamic and aggressive competition style, Tussa is particularly celebrated for his mastery of Flying Triangle Chokes. His relentless pace, technical precision, and fearless approach have established him as one of the most formidable grapplers of his generation.
