2017 ADCC West Coast Trials
Did you know?
- Across the 2017 ADCC West Coast Trials there were 268 recorded matchups, with 126 ending by submission and 119 decided on points. That split tells you how competitive the bracket was, since nearly as many matches went to the scoreboard as ended with a tap.
- The event ran at a 47 percent submission rate on record. For a trials with an ADCC ruleset that rewards points and positional control, that is a strong finishing pace.
- John Salter led the event with 7 wins but only 1 submission win, and he took the 88 Kilogram final over De'Alonzio Jackson on penalties. That is a grinder's run, winning on control and position rather than hunting the finish.
- Ethan Crelinsten went 5 wins with 4 by submission at 66 kg, capping it by choking Ricky Lule with a rear-naked choke at 4 minutes and 30 seconds in the final. Among the top performers he had the highest ratio of finishes to wins.
- The superfights leaned heavily on points rather than finishes, with Leandro Lo beating Gordon Ryan, Marcus Almeida beating Rafael Lovato Jr, and Roberto Abreu beating Vinicius Magalhaes all decided on points. Bruno Frazatto took the same route over Geovanny Martinez, winning 5-0.
