Danilo Moreira

Danilo Moreira was born on July 19, 1997, in Teresina, Piauí, Brazil. At the age of eight, he began his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey under Ariel Soares Teles at Delta Gold Team in Parnaíba. His father enrolled him in jiu-jitsu classes to ensure he remained positively engaged while his parents worked, unknowingly laying the groundwork for Danilo's future success in the sport.

After relocating from his hometown, Moreira joined Projeto Social Quartel General da Luta (PSQGL), a social initiative led by coach Luiz "Majorzão" Oliveira. Under Majorzão's structured guidance, Danilo rapidly advanced his technical skills and competitive mindset. On July 20, 2019, he earned his black belt, marking a significant milestone in his career. His father, Marcelo Carvalho Moreira, himself a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, provided unwavering support throughout Danilo's journey, although illness prevented him from co-hosting Danilo's black belt ceremony.

Due to PSQGL's limited international presence, Danilo represented various teams while competing globally across Europe and North America. Nearing the end of his colored belt career, he began competing under the banner of Ares BJJ, a team closely connected to his local training environment. Moreira represents Ares BJJ and is based in Arizona, USA, where he actively trains and instructs Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Initially competing in the featherweight division, Moreira transitioned to lightweight by 2024. This strategic move proved successful, as he secured gold medals at the 2024 IBJJF Phoenix Open and the 2025 IBJJF Albuquerque Open in his new weight class. He continues to excel at lightweight in major IBJJF events, demonstrating versatility and adaptability in his competitive approach.

Danilo Moreira is highly regarded for his technical no-gi style, characterized by precise back takes, tight positional control, and methodical transitions. His refined skill set earned him notable accolades, including a bronze medal at the 2023 IBJJF No-Gi World Championship in the featherweight division. Additionally, he reached the semifinals at the 2024 ADCC North American West Coast Trials (66 kg division), securing another bronze medal and further highlighting his technical proficiency and adaptability in elite no-gi competition.

Based in Arizona, USA, Moreira balances his rigorous competitive schedule with family responsibilities. He is raising a family alongside fellow Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor Elisabeth Clay, successfully integrating high-level athletic performance with personal commitments.
