Fabyury Khrysthyan

Fabyury Khrysthyan Teixeira Freitas was born on August 25, 2001, in Luziânia, Goiás, Brazil. His path to competitive jiu-jitsu began well before he stepped onto the BJJ mats — at just four years old, he entered the world of martial arts through Capoeira, the traditional Brazilian discipline that fuses movement, rhythm, and combat technique. That early immersion in body awareness and martial culture laid the groundwork for the athlete he would become.

As he matured, Fabyury transitioned to Muay Thai, broadening his striking foundation and further developing the physical and mental attributes essential to combat sports. His eventual move toward Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was less a calculated decision than an organic one — watching his cousin find success in local tournaments sparked a competitive curiosity that drew him to the sport.

His first steps in BJJ were taken at a Gracie Barra club under coach Adielson Meireles, where he also worked closely with Julio Cesar Pereira. Their guidance carried him steadily through the white, blue, and purple belt ranks, instilling the disciplined training habits that would define his competitive identity.

Building the Foundation

After earning his purple belt at the Gracie Barra club under Adielson Meireles and Julio Cesar Pereira, Fabyury Khrysthyan made a significant move to GFTeam in Rio de Janeiro. The transition exposed him to a higher level of training and competition, accelerating his development considerably.

His competitive roots stretch back to 2018, when as a juvenile competitor he earned bronze medals at the CBJJ Brazilian Nationals in both gi and no-gi — early signals of the champion he was developing into.

European Training and Brown Belt Dominance

The next transformative step came when Fabyury relocated to Europe to train under Gabriel Rainho (Biel). The move sharpened his game and produced immediate results on the competition circuit. His brown belt performances were particularly dominant in the no-gi format, cementing his reputation as a specialist without the kimono.

At the brown belt level, his results spoke for themselves: gold at the IBJJF European Championship in the gi division in 2022 as a purple belt transitioning into brown; back-to-back IBJJF European Championship No-Gi gold medals in 2022 and 2023; a bronze at the gi European Championship in 2023; and gold at the AJP Grand Slam in Miami in 2022 — a result that demonstrated his versatility across rulesets.

Black Belt Promotion

The defining moments of his brown belt tenure came in 2023, when Fabyury claimed gold at both the IBJJF World No-Gi Championship and the IBJJF Pan No-Gi Championship — two of the most prestigious titles available at the colored belt level. Those back-to-back victories made the decision clear: Gabriel Rainho promoted Fabyury Khrysthyan to black belt on December 20, 2023, a direct recognition of his dominance at the highest tier of colored belt competition.

Beyond his technical accomplishments, Fabyury Khrysthyan is widely recognized within the BJJ community for the personal tribute he pays before his matches to the late Leandro Lo, one of the sport's most celebrated champions. The pre-match ritual has become a defining characteristic of his competitive persona, offering a window into the values and influences that shape him as an athlete.
