Daniel Amorim Junior was born on August 17, 1998, in São Gonçalo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil — a city in the greater metropolitan area of Niterói with a strong tradition of producing competitive grapplers. From an early age, Daniel immersed himself in sport and physical development, exploring a range of athletic disciplines before finding his calling on the jiu-jitsu mats. The guiding force behind this multi-sport upbringing was his father, Daniel Oliveira Amorim (Senior), whose passion for martial arts proved formative in shaping his son's path.

That paternal influence directed Daniel toward Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and led him to begin training at Oriente Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Niterói, Brazil. Oriente had built a strong reputation for youth development, offering a structured, technically rich environment for young athletes. The coordination, competitiveness, and body awareness Daniel cultivated through his early athletic exposure translated directly into his grappling game, giving him a well-rounded physical foundation to build upon.

At Oriente Jiu-Jitsu Academy, Daniel Amorim Junior was shaped by two key mentors: Rafael Barros — known as Fofitio — and Master Max Câmara. Under their guidance, Daniel developed not only as a jiu-jitsu competitor but also as a wrestler, deliberately adding freestyle wrestling to his training to broaden his grappling arsenal.

Wrestling Dominance

The investment in wrestling paid immediate dividends. Daniel captured the Rio de Janeiro State freestyle wrestling championship in the Cadet division in three consecutive years — 2013, 2014, and 2015 — establishing himself as one of the most dominant young grapplers in the state. At the Brazilian Nationals, he added to his medal tally with a bronze in 2013, a silver in 2014, and another bronze in 2015, demonstrating sustained high-level performance across multiple seasons.

BJJ Colored Belt Achievements

Daniel's BJJ colored belt career was equally impressive. He claimed 1st place at the IBJJF World Championship Juvenile in 2015 and followed with a 1st place finish at the CBJJ Brazilian Nationals at blue belt in 2016. He also took 1st place at the CBJJ Brazilian Nationals Juvenile in both 2014 and 2015, confirming that his dominance at youth level was built on genuine technical development. His progress through the ranks at Oriente culminated in a purple belt promotion by Master Max Câmara — a recognition of the technical maturity he had earned under the academy's structured program.

Following his time at Oriente Jiu-Jitsu Academy, Daniel Amorim Junior joined Soul Fighters Academy as the next step in his competitive development — a move that reflected his drive to challenge himself in new training environments and push beyond what he had already achieved at the colored belt level.

His trajectory shifted significantly when he was accepted into Art of Jiu-Jitsu's prestigious Believe & Achieve program in California, United States — an initiative designed to identify and develop elite young talent from around the world. At AOJ, Daniel trained under the direct mentorship of Rafael Mendes and Guilherme Mendes, two of the most technically sophisticated competitors and coaches in the sport's history. Immersed in AOJ's refined system of guard play, leg entanglements, and competition strategy, Daniel's game sharpened considerably.

Daniel earned his brown belt during this period in California, and his results on the competition circuit reflected the depth of his growth. In 2018, he captured 1st place at the IBJJF World Championship No-Gi at brown belt — one of the most competitive no-gi events in the world — validating the technical investment made within the AOJ program.

The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 prompted Daniel Amorim Junior to return to Brazil after his time in California. Rather than treating the transition as a setback, Daniel used it as an opportunity to reconnect with his roots, rejoining former teammates at Double Five Academy under coach Leandro Escobar.

On December 5, 2020 — a date whose numerical significance resonates deeply within the team's culture — Leandro Escobar promoted Daniel to the rank of black belt. The date, 12/5, mirrors the Double Five name itself, lending the promotion a symbolic weight that extended beyond the ceremony and into the identity of the team.

Daniel moved quickly to assert himself at the black belt level. He competed at the IBJJF South American Championship, earning 3rd place in 2020 before improving to 2nd place in 2021 — a clear signal of his rapid ascent within the international black belt division. One of the primary representatives of Double Five on the world stage, Daniel Amorim Junior carries forward a lineage built through years of dedicated training across multiple academies, coaches, and disciplines — from the wrestling mats of Rio de Janeiro to the precision-focused halls of AOJ in California.
