Grappling Record and Competitive Presence
Throughout his competitive career, Tatu has operated at Peso Pluma (64 kg / 141 lbs), a weight class that demands exceptional technical precision and tactical intelligence. Beyond his Pan Championship victories in 2002 and 2003, Escobar has been a consistent presence on the podium at major IBJJF and CBJJ events — earning third-place finishes at the IBJJF Pan Championship in 2004, 2008, and 2009, as well as podium appearances at the IBJJF World No-Gi Championship in 2007 and 2010, and the CBJJ Brazilian Nationals No-Gi in 2009 and 2010.
Cross-Discipline Commitment
Tatu's competitive identity extends well beyond the gi. His engagement with No-Gi competition reflects the submission wrestling sensibility he developed through Luta Livre in his youth, and his willingness to test himself across formats speaks to a genuine commitment to the broader martial arts experience.
That commitment reaches further still. Tatu has trained Boxing under coach Cláudio Coelho, competed in Wrestling, and stepped into the MMA cage against notable opponents including Zach Makovski. This cross-disciplinary career arc mirrors the path he walked as a young athlete — one defined by curiosity, adaptability, and an unwillingness to be confined by a single discipline.
