About this video
The mural in the gym is one of five, with two located in the locker rooms and three in the main training area. Luca Atalla, the gym owner, inspired by previous murals and a shared history with the artist from Gracie Mag, sought to create a unique atmosphere. Atalla provided a book of aerial photographs of Rio de Janeiro, which captured the city's iconic landscapes, the ocean's interaction with the beach, and other notable locations. These images were selected, edited, and adapted to fit the mural style, featuring bright, warm colors that deviate from traditional palettes to evoke a sense of being in Rio, paying homage to its beauty and familiarity.
The murals aim to bring harmony and warmth to the jiu-jitsu space, contrasting with the typically hard, sterile environments of martial arts gyms. By using colors and imagery that are welcoming and not intimidating, the murals help to make the space more approachable for those new to jiu-jitsu. The artist's intention is to make visitors feel at ease and possibly more open to engaging with jiu-jitsu, transforming the gym into a place where anyone can feel at home and enjoy their training.
