Rolles returned to Rio de Janeiro in 1999 to train under Carlos Gracie Jr. (Carlinhos Gracie), pursuing BJJ with renewed focus and intensity. His progression through the ranks was rapid: that year, he earned a second Brazilian National Championship result at purple belt, demonstrating the speed of his advancement since returning to competition. In 2005, Rolles won the Grapplers Quest Championship, establishing himself as a legitimate force in the super heavyweight division on the North American grappling circuit. Three years later, in 2008, he competed at the Pan American No-Gi Championship and finished as runner-up — a strong performance at an elite no-gi event that underscored his continued relevance at the top level of submission grappling.
