Medeiros built his entire BJJ game at the prestigious Carlson Gracie Academy in Brazil, progressing from white belt to black belt under the direct guidance of Carlson Gracie. Training at one of the most dominant teams in the sport's history, he was an integral part of the Carlson Gracie era that ruled competitive BJJ throughout the 1980s and into the early 1990s. His technical mastery and aptitude for instruction became apparent early — by 1993, he had begun teaching at an affiliate academy, demonstrating leadership within the Carlson Gracie network well before earning his black belt.

His competitive credentials confirmed his elite standing before that promotion arrived. At the 1996 Pan American Championships, Medeiros claimed a silver medal competing at brown belt — a result that placed him firmly among the sport's rising generation. That same year, he relocated to Los Angeles, California, moving alongside his master Carlson Gracie and opening the next chapter of his career in the United States.

After three years training and teaching alongside Carlson Gracie in Los Angeles, Medeiros took the decisive step of opening his own independent academy in La Habra, California, establishing himself as a head instructor in his own right. In 2000, he expanded his reach by opening a second academy at the Pacific Beach Fight Center in San Diego — a location that became a productive hub for developing black belts and competitive champions.

Founding the BJJ Revolution Team

The year 2000 also marked the formal founding of the BJJ Revolution Team, the organization that stands as Medeiros's most enduring contribution to the sport. Rooted in the technical legacy of the Carlson Gracie lineage, the team grew into a nationally and internationally recognized association, drawing competitors, students, and coaches from Brazil, the United States, and Europe. The team's depth was further strengthened by the contributions of Francisco Albuquerque — known as 'Toco' — a historically significant Carlson Gracie Team black belt whose experience and knowledge enriched the association's instruction and culture.

He claimed back-to-back gold medals at the 2003 Pan Jiu-Jitsu IBJJF Championship and the 2004 Pan Jiu-Jitsu IBJJF Championship, both in the Masters Division at Peso Medio (Middle Weight) — 82kg/181lbs.
