Marcel Louzado was born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil, entering martial arts in the early 1990s against the backdrop of one of the country's most competitive grappling cultures. Before establishing himself as a decorated Jiu-Jitsu competitor, he first dominated the national Judo stage, claiming the Brazilian National Judo Championship on at least three to four separate occasions — a level of consistency that placed him among the country's elite grapplers before he ever stepped onto a BJJ competition mat.

A brief stint at TT followed before he eventually joined Checkmat, the team under which he would achieve his most recognized competitive accomplishments.

Louzado's black belt career on the IBJJF circuit was defined by sustained excellence across nearly a decade of elite competition. In 2002, the same year he received his black belt, he earned a bronze medal at the IBJJF World Championship while also winning the CBJJ Brazilian Nationals — a remarkable double in his debut year at the sport's top level. In 2003, he pushed to a silver medal finish at the IBJJF World Championship in the Pesado division, one of the most competitive weight categories of the era. He won the CBJJO World Cup in 2004, adding an international title to a résumé already spanning both domestic and global stages. Then in 2008, more than six years after his black belt promotion, Louzado returned to the IBJJF World Championship podium with another bronze medal — a testament to the technical refinement and competitive durability that defined his approach. After relocating to the United States, Marcel Louzado established a BJJ academy in Orange County, California, bringing a competition-tested curriculum to a new generation of practitioners.
