Luanna Alzuguir

Luanna Alzuguir was born on August 16, 1985, in São Paulo, Brazil, and began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the age of 9 — a commitment that would define the arc of her life. Her earliest instruction came under Marcelo Mathias, who laid the technical foundation that would underpin every stage of her development. She later transitioned to the Godoi/Macaco training center, where Celso Brito guided her through her formative competitive years, sharpening the technical game she had begun to build.

That environment came to an abrupt end when the Godoi/Macaco center dissolved following a split between Jorge 'Macaco' Patino and Roberto Godoi. The loss of her training home forced a genuine crossroads — one that would test her resolve and ultimately shape the competitor she became.

In the aftermath of the Godoi/Macaco split, Alzuguir seriously considered walking away from competitive jiu-jitsu to pursue a career in journalism. Without a stable training environment, stepping away from the sport was a real possibility. At Anhembi Morumbi University, Alzuguir took on the role of jiu-jitsu instructor as a brown belt — a reflection of both her technical maturity and her capacity to teach the sport at a high level before even reaching black belt. She graduated in 2008 and chose to forgo journalism entirely, committing herself fully to professional jiu-jitsu. That decision proved transformative, setting the stage for one of the most decorated competitive careers in the history of women's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
