Giulia Gregorut

Giulia Gregorut was born on June 19, 2000, in São Paulo city, Brazil, and spent her formative years in Guararema, a small municipality within the state of São Paulo. Her martial arts journey began with karate, which instilled an early passion for competition and combat sports — a competitive instinct that would prove foundational to everything that followed.

At the age of 14, a friend's invitation to try a jiu-jitsu class changed the trajectory of her athletic life. She walked into an Alliance affiliate in the Mogi das Cruzes neighborhood and was immediately captivated by the sport. What began as a single class became a full commitment, and she set about developing her technical game within the Alliance network under a series of high-level coaches.

Rodolfo Ionta and Dimitrius Souza were among her earliest mentors, with Souza awarding Gregorut her blue belt. Luciano Nucci — known as "Casquinha" — later guided her through the purple belt stage, sustaining a lineage of high-caliber mentorship that would define her ascent through the ranks.

Giulia Gregorut's connection to Rubens Charles "Cobrinha" began in 2017, when she traveled to train at his camp in preparation for that year's IBJJF World Championship. The experience left a lasting impression, though her full commitment to Cobrinha's environment would come later.

In 2019, Gregorut made the defining decision to become a full-time athlete and relocate to the United States. Her original plan was to join Lucas Lepri's Alliance workgroup in North Carolina, but circumstances steered her toward Los Angeles instead, where she joined the Cobrinha Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Fitness Academy. The move was more than a change of address — it was a declaration of professional intent and a full investment in competitive excellence.

Over nearly three years at Cobrinha's academy, Gregorut earned her brown belt and sharpened the technical and competitive attributes that would carry her to the sport's highest level. Her dual affiliation with Alliance and Cobrinha BJJ & Fitness reflects both the deep roots she built within the Alliance network and the training environment that shaped her black belt career.

Giulia Gregorut's brown belt years stand as a testament to relentless competitive ambition. Across both gi and no-gi formats, she assembled one of the most decorated colored belt records of her generation in the lighter weight divisions.

Her most significant colored belt achievements include gold at the IBJJF No-Gi World Championship in 2021 — one of the most prestigious titles available to colored belt competitors — alongside the IBJJF Pan Championship gi title in 2022 at brown belt. She also captured Pan Championship No-Gi gold at both purple belt in 2020 and brown belt in 2021, with the IBJJF American Nationals No-Gi title in 2021 further demonstrating her consistency across competition formats and calendars.

Runner-up finishes at the 2021 gi World Championship and across multiple Pan Championship divisions reinforced that her gold medals were not isolated results but reflections of sustained elite-level performance. By the time Rubens Charles promoted Giulia Gregorut to black belt on June 6, 2022, her competitive record had already made the case for the promotion many times over.

Giulia Gregorut entered black belt competition without a transitional period, immediately testing herself against the sport's most experienced practitioners. At the 2022 IBJJF No-Gi World Championship, she earned a silver medal in her debut year at the top level — a result that validated both the quality of her preparation and her readiness to compete among the world's elite.

It is worth noting that a 2022 gi World Championship gold medal at brown belt has sometimes appeared in circulation alongside her competition record. That result is not supported by verified competition data and should not be attributed to her. Gregorut was promoted to black belt on June 6, 2022, and her verified 2022 World Championship result is the silver medal at the No-Gi event at black belt.

In 2023, she placed 3rd at the CBJJ Brazilian Nationals, continuing to hold her own against seasoned black belt competition on the international circuit. Gregorut competes representing the United States, having built her professional career in Los Angeles while maintaining the Brazilian technical identity that has always defined her game.
