Gerardi Rinaldi

Gerardi Rinaldi — widely known as Jerry Rinaldi — built the foundation of an elite grappling career on the wrestling mats of New Jersey. Taking to the sport at a young age, he distinguished himself early by winning a state wrestling championship at Lodi High School, setting the stage for a collegiate career that would place him among the most accomplished wrestlers of his generation.

At Cornell University, competing in the 197 lbs weight class, Rinaldi became a central figure in one of the most talent-rich eras in American collegiate wrestling. At ADCC 2009, he delivered one of the most striking performances the tournament had seen from a newcomer, advancing through the bracket to reach the final and claiming a silver medal in the Super Pesado (100kg/221lbs) division — all with fewer than two years of formal jiu-jitsu training behind him.

Rinaldi's exceptional competitive record and rapid command of grappling concepts earned him formal recognition within the Renzo Gracie lineage. On May 9, 2011, Renzo Gracie promoted Rinaldi to black belt following a class with John Danaher, one of the most influential instructors associated with the academy. The promotion acknowledged not only Rinaldi's tournament results but also the depth of technical understanding he had developed across both wrestling and submission grappling.

Rinaldi holds a dual black belt lineage, recognized under both Renzo Gracie and Karel Pravec of Silver Fox BJJ — reflecting the two training environments that shaped his BJJ development from the outset.
