Bruno Lima

Bruno Lima was born on September 4, 1993, in Lisbon, Portugal. Raised in the Cacém neighborhood, he showed little interest in traditional sports such as football, instead gravitating toward playfighting and parkour throughout his childhood and early teens. At age 16, Lima began formal combat training at the MiraSintra boxing club, quickly entering amateur boxing competitions and demonstrating natural aptitude for combat sports.

At 19, Bruno Lima joined a local Gracie-Barra academy led by blue belt Mário Santos, initially intending to pursue a career in mixed martial arts (MMA). Between his white and blue belt progression, Lima competed in seven MMA bouts, securing five victories. During this period, he transitioned to training at his team's headquarters in Central Lisbon under black belt instructors Alexandre Machado and Handre Peters. This shift marked a pivotal moment, as Lima soon fully committed himself to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition.

Lima quickly emerged as a dominant competitor in the lower belt divisions, capturing significant international titles at purple and brown belt levels. Notably, he secured gold at the UAEJJF Abu Dhabi World Pro as a brown belt in 2019 and earned multiple IBJJF European Open titles. His consistent performances and dedication culminated in his promotion to black belt by Alexandre Machado in June 2019.

Bruno Lima is renowned for his pressure-heavy passing style and comprehensive top game, emphasizing positional dominance and relentless control. His technical approach consistently proves effective across major competitive circuits, including IBJJF, AJP, and ADXC, establishing him as one of Europe's premier grapplers of his generation.

Notable Victories and Performances

Throughout his black belt career, Bruno Lima has competed in several high-profile matches. In 2023, he captured the 85 kg division title at the Abu Dhabi World Pro, defeating Uanderson Ferreira in the final. In 2024, Lima headlined ADXC 3 (2024) against Jansen Gomes, ultimately losing by decision. Later that year, he rebounded impressively with a unanimous decision victory over Isaque Bahiense at ADXC 6 (2024). Additionally, Lima earned a silver medal at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Slam in Istanbul, further solidifying his status among elite competitors.

To prepare for elite-level competition, Bruno Lima previously trained at Legion AJJ in California, gaining valuable international exposure and refining his technical skills. He currently trains and competes out of AMA Jiu-Jitsu Team in Lisbon, Portugal, where he continues to sharpen his abilities and actively contributes to the growth and development of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Europe.
