Running parallel to his martial arts contributions was a decades-long career in law enforcement that reflected the same discipline and commanding presence Vigio brought to the mats. From the 1960s through the 1990s, he served as a police officer in Brazil, rising to lead both the Anti-Kidnapping Police unit and the Narcotics Bureau — positions that placed him at the forefront of some of Brazil's most demanding operations. Vigio also carried an association with the Esquadrão Le Cocq, a unit that later became known as the Esquadrão da Morte, situating him within one of the more controversial chapters of Brazilian police history.
In 1994, he was dismissed from the force following accusations of corruption. After a four-year legal process, he was officially cleared of all charges in 1998, closing a difficult chapter in an otherwise extensive career in public service.
