Eduardo Tinoco

Eduardo Tinoco was born in 1995 in São Paulo, Brazil, raised on the eastern side of the state. His introduction to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu came through Carlos Alexandre at Academia Colisão, where he spent his formative years building the technical foundation that would later define his competitive identity. Tinoco remained at Colisão through his purple belt, developing a disciplined training approach that carried him steadily through the early stages of his development.

After earning his purple belt at Academia Colisão, Tinoco transitioned to Almeida JJ, where he trained primarily under Gustavo Almeida. The move proved pivotal, placing him within a high-performance environment that accelerated his growth as a competitor. During this period, the Almeida team operated under the Ryan Gracie Academy banner until September 2016, after which Tinoco represented Almeida JJ on the Brazilian circuit and Atos JJ in international competition.

On December 10, 2017, Gustavo Almeida and Caio Almeida jointly promoted Tinoco to black belt — a ceremony that served as the natural culmination of one of the most dominant brown belt campaigns in recent IBJJF competition history.

Tinoco announced himself as one of the sport's most compelling prospects through an exceptional colored belt campaign. The centerpiece of that run came in 2017, when he captured the IBJJF World Championship title at brown belt — a result that placed him firmly on the international radar. That same year, he demonstrated consistency across multiple circuits, adding the IBJJF South American Championship, the IBJJF São Paulo BJJ Pro, and the IBJJF São Paulo Open to his résumé, alongside the UAEJJF Grand Slam Tour Rio de Janeiro title and the FPJJ São Paulo State Championship.

His competitive depth extended beyond a single standout season. At the 2016 CBJJ Brazilian National Championship, Tinoco earned a podium finish at brown belt, and he returned the following year to add another placement at nationals. His purple belt campaign also hinted at his ceiling, highlighted by the UAEJJF Brazil National Pro title in 2016. Taken together, Tinoco's colored belt record reflects a competitor who performed at the highest level long before receiving his black belt.
