Denilson Pimenta

Denilson Pimenta grew up in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro — an environment defined by poverty, limited opportunity, and the constant proximity of crime. Like many young people from these communities, he faced the everyday dangers and temptations that came with life in Rio's most challenging neighborhoods. In 1991, he made a decision that would shape the rest of his life: he stepped onto the mats and began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Before fully establishing himself under the GFTeam banner, Pimenta carried an earlier affiliation with Universidade Gama Filho (UGF), a prominent Rio de Janeiro institution that maintained a well-regarded BJJ program.

His black belt was awarded by Mestre Julio Cesar, one of Brazil's most respected BJJ instructors and the architect of GFTeam's elite competitive identity. Earning a black belt under Mestre Julio Cesar carries considerable distinction within the community, given GFTeam's long history of producing world-class athletes. Competing in the Pena — Featherweight division at 70kg/154lbs, Pimenta established himself as one of the top featherweight competitors of his generation — a recognition built through years of dedicated training and consistent performances on both the national and international stage.

In 2008, he reached the final of the World No-Gi Championship, earning a silver medal that reinforced his credentials as a world-class competitor. Rounding out this productive run, Pimenta secured a bronze medal at the Brazilian National Championship in 2009 and a third-place finish at the World Cup that same year.
