Andrew Wiltse was born on December 6, 1992, in Topanga Canyon, California, where he spent the first decade of his life. His parents, both originally from Michigan, had moved west to open a crystals store before his father's disenchantment with the California climate prompted a return to the Midwest. The family settled on Drummond Island — remote, sparsely populated, and a world apart from Southern California — where Andrew and his younger brother Sathya would come of age.

A Summer in Hawaii and the Grappling Bug

Wiltse's first encounter with martial arts came during the summer of 2006, when a trip to Hawaii to visit his mother led him to a local judo club. By the end of the vacation, he had earned his blue belt — a rapid early signal of his natural aptitude for grappling. Back in Michigan, he persuaded his father to let him continue training, eventually finding his way to Mike Ogden's judo program on Drummond Island. Given the island's isolation, the school operated on a modest scale, and Wiltse frequently trained in one-on-one sessions with the black belt instructor. That close contact forged a genuine mentorship, with Ogden becoming one of the earliest and most vocal advocates for Wiltse's competitive potential.

A Baptism by Fire — and a Fateful Introduction

At age 16, Ogden encouraged Wiltse to test himself in competition. The result was unforgiving: a local Upper Peninsula MMA event called Mutt MMA, a flying armbar, and a submission loss inside the first ten seconds. Rather than discouraging him, the jarring debut sharpened his commitment to training. Around this same period, Heath Pedigo passed through Sault Ste. Marie while promoting an MMA event and scouting talent. He visited a boxing gym where Ogden and Wiltse were training, rolled with the young grappler, and moved on — though the connection would prove consequential in the years ahead.

After completing high school, Wiltse briefly enrolled in college in Sault Ste. Marie. Through a contact named Rob McRorie, he learned that Heath Pedigo was running a jiu-jitsu school in Mount Vernon, Illinois — the Pedigo Submission Fighting Academy — and was offering a grappling scholarship. Learning that Pedigo had expressed interest in recruiting him, Wiltse left academia behind and relocated to Illinois to train full time. He officially began his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu career in 2013 as a white belt, despite already holding a brown belt in judo under Mike Ogden.

A Meteoric Rise Through the Ranks

The contrast between his judo pedigree and his beginner standing in BJJ did nothing to slow his ascent. Wiltse tore through the colored belt divisions with a consistency that drew attention across the North American competitive circuit. His blue belt campaign was particularly dominant: in 2015 alone, he claimed gold at the IBJJF World Championship, the IBJJF World Championship No-Gi, and the IBJJF Pan Championship, adding a second Pan title in 2016 along with a Pan No-Gi gold in 2015. He carried that momentum into purple belt, winning the 2017 IBJJF World Championship No-Gi and finishing as runner-up at the IBJJF World Championship in gi that same year. In December 2019, Heath Pedigo promoted Wiltse to black belt — a recognition reflecting not only his extensive competitive record but the years of deliberate development within the Pedigo system. The transition to the black belt division did not interrupt his output. In 2020, he claimed gold at the IBJJF Pan Championship No-Gi, and the following year he returned to the final once more, finishing as runner-up. Beyond competition, Wiltse established himself as a thoughtful analytical voice in the BJJ community, offering commentary on major events including the Craig Jones Invitational and ADCC.

A Mental Health Crisis and Arrest

In the period leading into 2025, Wiltse experienced a severe mental health crisis. A manic episode culminated in a widely reported confrontation with approximately ten police officers in his hometown of Drummond Island, resulting in his arrest. The incident drew significant attention within the BJJ community and marked the start of a turbulent public chapter in his life.

Public Apology and Legal Constraints

In a video released in August 2025, Wiltse issued a public apology to Craig Jones for statements he had made during his manic episode, acknowledging that he had "lashed out" and "burned a lot of bridges." He extended an additional apology to a friend named Clay. Ongoing legal matters limited what he could address publicly, and he referenced negative interactions involving individuals at a former training facility. By that point, his previous YouTube channel and several social media accounts had been deleted, and a planned gym partnership had fallen through.

By September 2025, Wiltse described his financial situation as dire, attributing serious hardship to an ongoing lawsuit filed by a former coach. Levies had been placed on his PayPal, Venmo, and Cash App accounts, and he deleted his Patreon after losing access to the funds held there. He reported being placed on two-year probation with travel restrictions that, as of that date, prevented him from leaving Michigan without prior authorization. A separate family dispute over the proceeds of a house sale — which he stated he had purchased using earnings from BJJ Fanatics — added further strain to an already difficult period.

Allegations Against Daisy Fresh

Less than two months after his public apology to Craig Jones, in October 2025, Wiltse released a video making sweeping allegations about the Daisy Fresh gym. He described the organization as a "cult of personality" run by a figure he referred to as a "God King" — a characterization widely understood to reference Heath Pedigo. He alleged illegal drug sales within the organization and claimed members were pressured to participate, citing Austin Phelps by name. He further alleged that reports of sexual assault had been brought to leadership without being addressed, that exploitation of members had been normalized, and that an ex-girlfriend named Nicole had helped him recognize what he characterized as cult-like dynamics. He called out figures in the broader BJJ community, including Craig Jones, for public silence on the matter, and stated he possessed supporting evidence. As of the date of reporting, no official responses from Daisy Fresh or the individuals named had been issued.

A New Beginning in Kearney

Despite the travel restrictions reported in September 2025, Wiltse relocated to Kearney, Nebraska by approximately late April or early May 2026, following a repaired relationship with his brother, known as Bird Wiltse. Bird — along with a partner named Anna — extended an invitation for Andrew to move and build something together. Wiltse later noted that he had deliberately avoided suggesting the idea himself, not wanting to pressure his brother, and that the invitation carried particular meaning because of that restraint.

Teaching, Structure, and Recovery

Since arriving in Kearney, Wiltse began teaching at Magnum MMA, operated by Justin Weaver — an experience he described as transformative. In a July 2026 update, he reflected: "I get to do the jiu-jitsu stuff and I'm getting in shape and just, you know, putting myself back together, mental health wise, everything's doing good." The structure of teaching and training at Magnum MMA gave him a foundation from which to rebuild both his competitive focus and his personal life.

Wiltse Brothers BJJ: Building Something New

The formal launch of Wiltse Brothers BJJ was planned for August 2026, co-founded by Andrew Wiltse, Bird Wiltse, and Justin Weaver, operating in partnership with Magnum MMA and Omega's in Kearney. Among Andrew's stated first priorities upon arriving in Nebraska was promoting Bird to black belt — an honor he intended to confer based entirely on his brother's merit. The two also discussed future content creation, with Wiltse noting: "We actually still have a really good camera. We'll be talking about making dreams of content again and all the things we want to do in the future and everything's looking good."

Throughout this period, Wiltse maintained a limited social media presence, directing those seeking updates to reach out to Bird directly. The move to Kearney represented a deliberate pivot — away from the turbulence of the preceding years and toward rebuilding relationships, stabilizing his mental health, and returning to the mat as both a practitioner and a teacher.
