Working full time from 7:30am to 5:30pm and attending school from 7pm to 10:45pm, the only session he could reach was the 11pm class at Cicero Costha's PSLPB academy — a class that ran until roughly 12:30am. Rather than treat those constraints as obstacles, Barros committed to that late-night routine without exception for three consecutive years.

The discipline required to work, study, and train deep into every night spoke to a dedication that would later define his competitive identity. After three years grinding through the 11pm class, Barros made a decisive commitment to the sport and quit his job to train full time. The investment paid off: in 2010, Cicero Costha awarded him his black belt, recognizing years of tireless development and an emerging status as one of PSLPB's most important competitors.

Barros competes in the Peso Pluma division (64kg / 141.5lbs), a weight class where guard play and bottom-oriented grappling typically dominate the competitive landscape. What distinguishes him from the majority of his peers is his identity as a guard passer — a technical orientation that is genuinely uncommon at lighter weights, where pulling guard and working submissions from the bottom represents the prevailing norm.

Barros made an immediate impact on the Brazilian circuit at the black belt level, claiming three consecutive titles at the IBJJF Rio Open from 2011 through 2013. He reinforced his national standing with gold at the CBJJ Brazilian Nationals in 2012, a title he reclaimed in 2014 and again in 2017 — a span of competitive relevance stretching across nearly a decade. On the international stage, he captured gold at the 2014 IBJJF European Open Championship and earned the 2017 IBJJF Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championship title, one of the sport's most coveted honors outside the World Championship.
