Division Dominance and Notable Victories
Suyan Queiroz established himself as one of the premier lightweight competitors of the late 1990s and early 2000s, competing in the Peso Leve division at 76kg/167lbs. His technical precision and competitive intelligence produced victories over highly regarded opponents, including Jefferson Moura, Leonardo Peçanha, Leonardo Santos, Raphael Abi-Rihan, and Eduardo Jamelao — a résumé that confirmed his standing among the division's elite.
Championship Record
Suyan's ascent through the belt ranks was accompanied by consistent podium finishes on the major competitive circuits. He claimed the Pan American Championship title at purple belt in 1996 and earned the Brazilian National Teams title that same year. His 1998 World Championship gold at brown belt was followed by a third-place finish at the World Championship in 1999 as a black belt, demonstrating that promotion did not diminish his competitive edge. He also accumulated multiple Rio de Janeiro State titles across both brown and black belt divisions, reflecting a sustained presence throughout his home region.
Masters Division Excellence
Suyan's competitive longevity proved remarkable. He returned to the podium in the masters divisions, earning the World Masters Championship title in 2015 at Master 3, along with American National Championship and American National No-Gi Championship gold that same year. Additional masters-level podium appearances at the Pan American Championship between 2013 and 2015 confirmed that his competitive edge remained sharp well into the later stages of his career.
